“Our Nurses. Our Future. Empowered Nurses Save Lives.”
On Tuesday, May 12, 2026, the Nursing Sciences Program at the Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences at the Libyan International Medical University (LIMU) celebrated International Nurses Day at the “Promising Libya” (Libya Al-Waeda) Hall.
The event, which marks the birth anniversary of Florence Nightingale, the founder of modern nursing, was attended by the President of the University, Prof. Dr. Mohamed Saad Ambarek, alongside LIMU leadership, the Nursing Sciences faculty, students, and a distinguished group of healthcare professionals. The celebration underscored the vital role of the nursing profession in saving lives and enhancing the quality of healthcare.
Opening Remarks
The event commenced with an opening session featuring welcoming addresses from:
- Prof. Dr. Mohamed Saad Ambarek – President of the University
- Prof. Dr. Adel Al-Tawati – Dean of the Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences
- Prof. Dr. Othman Al-Tajouri – Director of the Nursing Sciences Program
The opening was followed by a visual presentation showcasing the concept, vision, and establishment of LIMU’s Nursing Sciences Program.
Keynote Scientific Sessions
A scientific session followed, covering several critical themes in modern nursing:
- “An Overview of the Nursing Sciences Program” Presented by Dr. Wafaa Ramadan Ahmed (Assistant Professor of Medical-Surgical Nursing and Program Coordinator), highlighting the program’s vision, goals, educational outcomes, and its role in preparing qualified nursing cadres according to international academic and professional standards.
- “What’s New in the Field of Nursing” Delivered virtually via Zoom by Dr. Khaldoun Al-Nawafleh (Associate Professor of Nursing at the University of Tabuk, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia), exploring the latest advancements and trends in nursing practice and health education.
- “Nursing as a Humanitarian Profession Rooted in Compassion and Life-Saving” Presented by Mr. Ramadan Al-Agouri (Adjunct Faculty Member and Director of Nursing at the National Heart Center in Benghazi), reflecting on the deeply human aspects of nursing and its profound impact on patient care.
Outstanding Student Presentations
Students from the program actively participated with high-level scientific presentations:
- “The Role of Nursing in Infection Control within Healthcare Facilities” – Presented by Hannibal Majed Hmaid (First Cohort).
- “Patient Safety and the Role of Nursing” – Presented by Al-Baraa Mohamed Al-Hammad (Second Cohort).
- “Nursing Ethics” – Presented by Batoul Wanis Al-Warfali (First Cohort).
